New numbers from the World Trade Center Utah show better than expected export numbers for our state.

Total exports from Utah in April 2013 totaled more than 1.5 billion dollars, which is quite a bit higher than last April's total of 1.2 billion. This is the first month in 2013 that came out ahead of its counterpart in 2012.

Due to the landslide at the Kennecott mine earlier this year, there was concern over primary metal exports. However, 60 percent of Utah's exports were primary metals with a total of 922 million dollars exported. This strong showing was very good news.

The World Trade Center Utah report noted that the Foreign Trade Division of the U.S. Census Bureau released revised final figures for 2012. The figures indicated a rise in Utah's total from 19.11 billion dollars to 19.25 billion.

The number of positive revelations that came from the April 2013 Exports report are solid indicators that 2013 will continue Utah's trend of being a strong and growing export state. This is Marty Carpenter for KSL News Radio.
