Tim Brown, executive director of Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City, says this Salt Lake City classic is on a construction roll right now with many new exhibits popping up in connection with old favorites … like King of the Andes, where visitors can see the 56-year-old Andean Condor. It's not unusual to see him spreading his 10-foot wings to catch some rays. Some visitors are even lucky enough to catch him while he's walking around the grounds.

On Friday, May 29, Tracy Aviary will be hosting their Ready to Hatch event, open to adults only. Tim says this is a great opportunity to enjoy the aviary in full bloom with live music, a silent auction, beverages and great food, not to mention beautiful birds. The event is expected to sell out, so Tim encourages patrons to purchase their tickets in advance, which can be done online at tracyaviary.org.

This is all part of Tracy Aviary's mission — to inspire caring and curiosity for birds and nature through education and conservation. If you're a birder, or as the English say, a twitcher, you'd be interested to see the variety of species that call Tracy Aviary home, from North, South and Central America. The bond the citizens of Salt Lake County passed back in 2008 has been put to excellent use as the aviary has morphed into an unbelievable bird sanctuary featuring over 130 species, with a focus on native birds.

Visitors especially love the colorful flamingo exhibit, where they see these beautiful birds standing in their traditional one-foot pose. The Owl Forest features Great Grey Owls, who don't usually make it as far south as Salt Lake City, and 10 other species of owls. The Birds of Argentina exhibit and experience has birds including parakeets, saffron finches and parrots. This is an up close and personal opportunity as visitors interact with the birds inside the cages. This summer Tracy Aviary will be featuring Avian Adventure Summer Camps from June through August for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade.
