This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Not every company can say in one month, they had product in outer space and in an underwater trench. Yet that's the diversity and success AeroLEDs is experiencing, now with an international impact. Their product is already found daily 20,000 feet in the air.

AeroLEDs specializes in providing LED lighting for the aerospace industry, everything from light aircraft to heavy and military aircraft of all sizes. These are exterior lights including landing, anti-collision on the wingtips, navigational and flashing lights used as protection for the aircraft while in flight.

Company founders Nate Calvin, Dean Wilkinson and Mike Damico both had backgrounds in engineering and aerospace. Nate learned to fly shortly after college and developed a passion for aviation. He learned about LED lighting as it was being developed, but it wasn't until the early 2000s that it became bright enough to compete with traditional lighting. AeroLEDs started in 2007 and has grown steadily since then, now with 8 employees on board.

The team attends industry trade shows throughout the year to display and support the product. They also have a strong reseller network throughout the nation and the world. Nate says there's not a continent in the world that doesn't have their product on it. The U.S. is an important market for the product since approximately 70 percent of the aircraft in the world is located here.

In such a well-established industry, AeroLEDs faces stiff competition from companies that have been in the business for decades. Their advantage comes, Nate says, from being nimble so they can react quickly to changes in the industry. They've invested a lot of time and energy into R&D to create a strong, original product line with ground zero design, meaning all their products are built around the LED light.

If you'd like to find out more about how to build your company's global presence, you can attend the fourteenth annual Zions Bank Trade and Business Conference on May 12. For more information or to register, visit www.zionsbank.com/conference.
