This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Allan McCulley comes from a long line of farmers, and he has watched it develop and change over time. His Southern Utah business, Overson's Farm Center, is supporting farmers across the state.

The main product they provide at Overson's Farm Center is large farm equipment like balers, harvesters, tractors and hay equipment from AGCO, Massey Fergusson and Challenger. Overson's is also the only Claas dealer in Utah.

Allan says Overson's has a diverse customer base of both older and younger farmers. Around 20 percent of their customers are on a roll program where they update their equipment regularly with the newest models as soon as they're available, and they love the partnership with Overson's. This also gives the company quality used equipment to sell both inside and outside their territory.

When Allan bought Overson's Farm Center five years ago, it was a small seed and feed operation selling a selection of farm equipment with just one store in Cedar City. Allan and his brother and business partner, Tyler McCulley, saw potential in the model and knew expansion was on the horizon. Today, Overson's is seeing the fruits of that labor, with locations in Delta, Beryl Junction and Cedar City and a fourth opening shortly in Salina.

Allan worked for 16 years at Wheeler Machinery in Salt Lake City. He was a service mechanic and spent time out on the road. Then, for the last six years, he was selling ag equipment, so he knows the equipment and the industry. Buying Overson's Farm Center offered him a new career opportunity, and he says the decision has been a great one.

Allan feels that while it's good to be big and have more buying power, it's also good to be small, so you're accessible to customers. It's that personal touch with his clients he and his team of 22 employees have worked hard to maximize at Overson's Farm Center.
