This is Chris Redgrave Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

They're called the greatest generation, and for good reason- the men and women who fought in World War II not only secured the peace and liberated hundreds of thousands of Jews in concentration camps, but also secured our freedoms for decades to come. Today, KSL and several Utah businesses join forces with Utah Honor Flight, a program dedicated to sending the heroes of this horrific war to see the monument created in their honor. Sixty Six veterans are getting on board a plane today bound for Washington D-C to finally be recognized for their sacrifice. Many of these men and women have never received a word of thanks for the things they did in the name of defeating Hitler, his cause and his Allies. There are two women on today's flight and one of the soldiers served in three wars. The youngest was just 16 years old when he was called to war. The heroes include a Silver Star, Bronze Star and two soldiers awarded the Purple Heart. They include mechanics, radiomen, pilots, medics, Seabees and a nose gunner. Other soldiers served as cooks, a waist gunner, administration and a pay master. There are 9,000 Utah soldiers who served some 69 years ago, but their numbers are dwindling fast. That's what makes this effort so important. The monument was only created ten years ago, so many haven't had the opportunity to see it before now. Their advanced age and compromised health mean time is running out. In addition to seeing the monument, the Utah veterans on today's flight will visit Arlington cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and take an evening bus tour of our nation's capital. ALL of the funds collected for this effort were donated. That says a lot about the people in this state. With enough funds, there will be more flights- and you can become a part of this movement, by donating at "Utah Honor Flight-dot-org". It is Utah's honor and our pleasure to give thanks to these heroes who gave so much to protect the liberties we enjoy today.
