This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

When one can closes, another opens. So listen to this idea. Randy Maxfield of Cantastic in Salt Lake City was involved in a family-owned meat processing facility. The business closed in August 2011, so Randy's eyes were on any new opportunities he might find.

A few months later his father-in-law, Ray Francis, stumbled upon a truck for sale online that had been retrofitted to clean garbage cans. He got Randy on board with his idea, and they bought the business right away. Soon that idea became a unique business of cleaning and sanitizing trash cans, known today as Cantastic. Almost three years later and with five employees, Randy and Ray have started something special.

Cantastic trucks make monthly visits to the neighborhoods where clients live. Because trash is collected at different times depending on location, pickup schedules vary and leave the crew with lots of work. Customers are notified by email, text or phone call that the truck is on its way. These heavy-duty trucks turn dirty, smelly garbage bins into sanitary, pristine waste collectors and leave neighborhoods looking clean and garages smelling fresh. This is a service the whole world could truly benefit from!

As you can imagine, Cantastic is a one-of-a-kind business didn't develop overnight. Great efforts have spread the word on this special service including stickers on garbage cans, mailer coupon packages, traditional coverage in local news outlets and one lucky break from an early consumer. A TV producer at a local station wanted her trash cleaned and was so impressed with the service that she decided to feature the product on a news program, leading to more exposure.

Cantastic now services over 500 commercial and residential garbage cans each week and is growing with clients throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Randy is expanding to areas and where his business provides service, and increasing the number of trucks in operation. He has the Wasatch Front to master with outside interest knocking at his door.

Our friends at Cantastic have proven that "one man's trash is another man's business."

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
