This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

As a journalist with 15 years of experience writing and reporting in a fast-paced environment, Kimberly Houk (How-k) developed a strong passion for telling people's stories. As her career advanced, she discovered journalism wasn't filling that need for her. The stories she was reporting on only scratched the surface. She longed for the time and the method where she could really dig in and tell the complete story, filling in details that would captivate her audience. It was at this point she knew it was time to take her career in a new direction. That's when she decided to launch Family Storyteller.

This is where families can bring materials, including journals and pictures, about someone they love and watch as Kimberly brings that person's history to life in a way only a reporting professional can. Family Storyteller will not only provide in-depth research for the stories, they will also pull it all together and turn it into a 30-minute documentary to capture this person's whole life story in video format. You can imagine how critical the information is for families, especially with Utah's focus on genealogy and being home to the largest family history library in the world.

The whole idea of Family Storyteller is a futuristic approach to genealogy, to preserve stories here and now. While it's for the person whose story is being told, it's also for future generations, who would like to know their relatives through their own words.

The process not only includes Kimberly's research and storytelling ability but also professional interviewing skills and voiceover talent. Family Storyteller's finished product is designed to be a true documentary, preserving an entire life story in a professionally produced product. It's saving family memories in real-time, helping to bring family members to life for generations to come. While most people think they know their loved one's life story, many have been surprised at what Kimberly discovers and learn brand new information.

Kimberly launched Family Storyteller at this year's RootsTech Conference in downtown Salt Lake City. It's already receiving attention from families and organizations around the valley.
