This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Technology is big business in Utah. It represents 25 percent of the state GDP. High-tech companies bring in close to $20 billion in revenues, which helps keep the Utah business economy strong. And a growing player in that industry is Woodbury Technologies.

Karen Woodbury is President and CEO of Woodbury Technologies, based in Clearfield. The company specializes in IT services for government and military contracts. Some of their core competencies include providing software engineering and programming, server and network administration and computer security. Many of these projects are security-based and require special clearance for the employees working on them.

Karen says Woodbury Technologies has exciting projects they work on every single day, which include the Hill Air Force Base ICBM F16 program, with contracts to do systems and software ICBM. Plus they also provide support to program management in scheduling and logistics. They have a strong presence at Dugway Proving Grounds in Tooele.

Woodbury has achieved the Carnegie Mellon Accreditation of being CMMI Level II, an independent credential which says you produce only the best quality products. It's a major accomplishment where they actually bring someone in from outside to complete it. Right now, Woodbury Technologies has around 240 employees in 13 states with almost one third of them right here in Utah.

Even though Woodbury Technologies was established in May 2003, it wasn't until 2005 with their first contract at Hill Air Force Base that the company really started to get rolling. Karen says technology can be a male-dominated landscape, but that's never mattered to her. There have been important strides forward and a lot of attention for that very same reason. She represents women in the industry and has been invited to speak at conferences to share her experiences.

Karen loves to mentor and help others. In fact, a number of people have come to Karen for help and she has been able to assist. Woodbury Technologies is also involved in the community, with employees participating in charitable events like Cars for Christmas.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
