This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

You use your core muscles — meaning your abdominal, oblique and mid and lower back muscles — for most activities you do every day, even sitting upright in your desk at work! So, your core is essential to your overall health and fitness. In fact, the only time your core muscles are not engaged is when you're flat on your back. That's why it's critical to keep them in shape for your entire life.

The core is a major focus of one of the newest fitness techniques to come to Utah — The Bar Method. The Bar Method uses the body's own weight to isolate, strengthen and sculpt all major muscle groups, especially your core. It's a combination of isometrics, dance conditioning, interval training and physical therapy. Every exercise at The Bar Method is designed to build upon the one that follows, therefore making your workout even more effective.

The flagship studio opened in San Francisco in 2000 and now Carrie Goodwin is the owner of The Bar Method studio at 1057 E. 2100 South in Salt Lake City, one of 82 franchises in the United States and the first in Utah. This is the original so watch out for knockoffs because they're just not the same.

It's not uncommon for Carrie to have people seek her out because it is The Bar Method, and they can't find one anywhere else. You can find the same techniques in their studios across the United States. Carrie has clients driving in from all over, different ages and physical condition so everyone's comfortable in class.

The Bar Method instructors are required to complete an intense, rigorous high-level training, involving both mind and body, to master the exercises and form to receive their certification. They are evaluated on a regular basis by corporate Bar Method personnel who are experts who travel around the U.S. to the studios. A major focus for is to maintain consistency between studios and instructors so students know exactly what to expect, no matter where they attend class.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
