This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Water.... Maybe it's not the topic of conversation at dinner parties or when you're getting together with family......But water is essential to life, especially since two thirds of the human body is made of water....Talk about the most basic human need. Not to mention the population of Utah is projected to double by 2050, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

These are all reasons why water conservation is a huge concern to Weber Basin Water District .... Good conservation techniques and future water development is critical, so we have water for generations to come...

As the general manager of the Weber Basin Water District, Tage Flint understands the stakes for water conservation and planning..... He's been in this business for almost 30 years....His Layton-based operation is in place to make water supplies available...They operate the big reservoirs people recreate on and provide water on a wholesale basis.

The Western climate has always been cyclical so we experience extremes here....Water comes as either feast or famine... So, to protect against this, Tage says they capture snowfall as much as possible....As for streams that run off, it's not all being captured. And that's another possible source for development and conservation...

Most water managers are trying to develop water for people but always have an eye on not damaging the environment while they do .....With the expected population growth in Utah, there will be a much higher need for water, so it's important to establish conservation systems now.... Tage and his team of 100 employees at the Weber Basin Water District are developing programs that will prepare us for that ...

Tage is a civil engineer by training, so that steered him towards the water industry..... Plus, his father, Ivan, was in the business before him so Tage grew up in the business...The Weber Basin Water District is a sponsor of the Slow the Flow campaign, offering educational materials and a water conservation garden in Layton that demonstrate plants and irrigation systems teaching us how to show off a beautiful yard with less than half your present water use.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
