Chalk Garden Co-op is a collection of partnerships with interesting retailers like his wife Lanny Barnard, a well-known Utah artist, a day spa, hair salon and the actual Chalk Garden where you'll find designer clothing, shoes and boots and antique jewelry.
The famous Utah retail store Chalk Garden was the third business to open in Trolley Square in 1972, following a restaurant and theater. It continued to grow every year from their designer clothing line to a salon upstairs to shoes, and they were especially known for their antique jewelry. Eventually, Jack's wife, Lanny Barnard, made it into The Chalk Garden with her original artwork and antique jewelry.
After closing the Chalk Garden at Trolley Square over 13 years ago, much to the dismay of many Utah shoppers and tourists, the Lanny Barnard Gallery opened in Park City with some characteristics of the Chalk Garden. With the opening of City Center Chalk Garden Co-op, we welcome them back into Salt Lake City.
This retail DNA is entering the next generation, who got it not only from Jack Barnard but also from his mother, who owned a clothing store in Salt Lake City for years. In addition to the Chalk Garden, the family also operates JMR and Lolabella, which you'll find in several local malls.
The Chalk Garden is part of the renaissance of Salt Lake City. Jack is bullish on the future of his third generation to grow Chalk Garden Co-op with the new performing arts center opening in a few years, the college opening in the Tribune building next fall and the remarkable residential development in downtown.
