This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

This is an interesting story about how Rainy's Flies, a fly-tying company selling internationally, came about. When her grandfather took her out fly fishing at the tender age of five, Rainy Riding had no idea her life was about to change, or that she'd just discovered her life passion....She learned to fish and was introduced to the fly-tying jargon that went with it..... Later, as an admin to a professor, she was called in to help teach an overfilled fly-tying class .... With only half an hour of training, she taught the class and sparked her interest to develop a new hobby.

Once she learned the art, Rainy became an avid fly tier..... It was her favorite hobby... Then, one day when someone gave her $20 for her flies, she took a look at her hobby and decided it was time to find a way to monetize it. This led to the creation of Rainy's Flies… Today, Rainy boasts of having invented over 750 of her own fly-tying patterns...And those flies head to fly shops and distributors across the U.S. and around the world... In the industry, they're known simply as Rainy's.

They offer flies for trout, bonefish and saltwater fish.... On the front of their catalogue, you'll see the omnifish, which represents 13 different types of fish — a salute to the industry they're serving.

What makes them stand out is Rainy's Flies is the only female-owned fly-tying company in the world..... Today, the company is a partnership between Rainy and Ellen Clark. ...Rainy is the designer and heads their manufacturing operation in Thailand while Ellen covers the marketing side of the business at the Logan headquarters. She has a master's degree in instructional technology with an emphasis in marketing.

Fly fishing is a sport enjoyed by thousands of people, but it's a sport that requires responsibility, ensuring water quality and doing catch and release whenever possible....
