This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

These two guys can make life hard — but that's why you bring them on in the first place.....Clayton Monahan and Scott Dunford of Summit Hardscapes in Ogden know quality ... Maybe that's why their company was chosen to provide pavers for the Airport Trax line, opening next spring.

Summit Hardscapes features European cobblestones for roads and paving stones and retaining walls for driveways, roadways and walkways. Their work can be seen in hardscapes around the valley. What they do, they do well. How else can their growth be explained — from last year to this year they had a 250 percent increase in sales … mainly through word of mouth.

As for their experience? There's a story here ... Clayton worked for a large civil contractor, using his degree in construction management. Scott uses the technical paving stone training he received as a certification from the Interlocking Paving Stone Institute (ICPI) to manage the operational side of the business. That means a perfect partnership at Summit Hardscapes — Clayton can grade and dig to get it ready, but setting the pavers is Scott's expertise.

Typically Summit Hardscapes does about 50 percent residential and 50 percent commercial paving jobs, although the UTA Trax job has tipped the scales for commercial this year. ... That project is a labor-intensive one, yet rewarding to see their work being admired by thousands of Trax riders ... It's opened doors for some other big projects. This team is a great example of why Forbes named Utah as the Best Place for Business and Careers.

From a technical standpoint, the beauty of it all is, hardscapes are perfect for Utah's freeze and thaw climate .... With concrete, freezing and thawing means cracking and buckling, which can be costly to maintain....In hardscapes, one piece of stone can break and all that's needed is to replace it with a new one ... Repair costs are less, and labor for any job is lower ... Summit Hardscapes also offers a five-year unconditional craftsmanship guarantee.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
