This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

So there's having a family profession and then there's really having a family profession. If you ask the Stohl family, they'd tell you theirs is dentistry. How could it not be with a father and four sons who graduated from the same dental school and a daughter who is not only a dental hygienist but is also married to an oral surgeon?

This is the kind of background brothers David and Matt Stohl bring to their dental practice, Foothill Dental in Salt Lake City. They joined their father, John Stohl, after graduating from dental school in 2000 and 2007 respectively. When their dad decided to retire, Matt bought his share of the company, so they now own Foothill Dental together.

These brothers recently opened their brand new dental office on Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City. This 2,500 square foot office has six treatment rooms and a surgical suite. There's also a kids play area in the waiting room. Their client base has expanded enough they've grown from six to nine employees, adding to Utah's growing employment base.

David and Matt know that coming to the dentist can be a stressful experience, so they want patients at Foothill Dental to be as comfortable as possible. So, while patients are getting their teeth cleaned, they get a paraffin wax hand dip, warm neck wrap and eye compress. It's not uncommon for patients to say they want to stay for another hour. With that kind of treatment, it's no wonder why!

At Foothill Dental they also use only the most up-to-date equipment like a CEREC (sare-ack) machine, which creates same-day crowns; digital x-rays; laser dentistry and gum treatment; and diagnadent, an early cavity detection technology. After every visit, patients get a survey where they can offer valuable feedback on their experience and what might have made it better. This helps Matt and David keep an eye on constant improvement. They also believe the best ideas come from employees and customers, so the more feedback they get, the better Foothill Dental can be.
