This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Jack Olsen started into the auto business during the Great Depression. Business was tough, to say the least. To sell a car, he'd drive his car around town with a new car towed behind it and wouldn't come home until he sold the car. Now that's dedication!

His son-in-law, Kent Murdock, joined the business and steadily worked his way up from selling to managing to owning, later buying out his father-in-law and opening Murdock Chevrolet in Woods Cross in the early 80s. Today Kent and his sons, KO and Blake, own Murdock Chevrolet. They've expanded the business to include three Hyundai stores along the Wasatch Front. Kent was recently honored at the Utah Auto Dealers Hall of Fame. This means something since only one or two people are recognized each year.

Company vice-president KO says the auto industry is a dynamic business to be in with something new happening every day. He has enjoyed watching the trends in buying cars at Murdock Chevrolet over the years from one car per family to today when it's not unusual to see a car for every licensed driver or activity.

It's no small feat to have successfully entered the third generation of family ownership since only 10 percent of businesses hit this important milestone. KO says they've done well working as a family, and he's excited for the next generation now coming into the business. His father's motto has always been "where you are the heart of our business," and you can see it in customer satisfaction.

Murdock Chevrolet has been recognized in independent Chevrolet surveys for their high level of service as one of the top Chevrolet dealers in the state, in the top 5 for sales and the top 3 for customer satisfaction. They're confident with an owner on site at Murdock Chevrolet every day. This care shows in their high level of repeat customers, now spanning several generations.

If you like cars, don't miss Speed at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, opening tomorrow and staying through September 16. Visit speedumfa.com for more information.
