New teams move into top five in this week's KSL Coaches Poll

SALT LAKE CITY — There are a handful of teams who have moved into the top five of the KSL Coaches Poll in their respective classification thanks to last week's results.

Syracuse is back in the top five this week moving up to No. 4 after winning their third straight game after their only loss of the season to No. 2 Davis.

Bingham remains No. 1 after taking care of business against Jordan 48-27. They are followed by Davis, Brighton, Syracuse and Herriman.

Herriman moves into the top five after a thrilling 20-17 defeat of rival and 4th ranked Riverton on Thursday. Colt Andolsek made a game winning field goal with just two seconds left on the clock to give the Mustangs the victory.

The top five in 4A remains the same with East No. 1 followed by undefeated Logan, Timpview, Woods Cross and Sky View.

Top 5 performances:

Kamren Fowles, Manti

Fowles became just the fourth player in state history to rush for more than 400 yards in a game. He finished with 411 yards and five touchdowns on 37 carries helping the Templars clinch at least a share of the region title with a 41-33 win over Juab.

Scott Nichols, Bingham

Nichols had a night to remember rushing for 203 yards and three touchdowns on just 23 carries. He also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown racking up 363 all-purpose yards.

Kody Wilstead and Jack Bangerter, Pine View

Wilstead threw for 480 yards and four touchdowns and all four of those touchdowns were caught by Bangerter who finished with 17 receptions for 268 yards.

Logan Miller, Sky View

The Bobcats wide receiver had a big night in a win over Box Elder catching nine passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns. He also starred on defense leading the team with 14 tackles and a sack.

Auston Tesch, Weber

Tesch rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on offense and led the team on defense with nine tackles and a sack in Weber's 31-20 win over Fremont.

Juan Diego is the only undefeated team left in 3AA and remain No. 1. They clinched another region title Friday with a win at Stansbury 37-16.

The Soaring Eagle are followed in the poll by four teams from the 3AA South region. Dixie is No. 2 followed by Pine View, Desert Hills and Snow Canyon makes their first appearance in the top five this season.

Morgan defended their top ranking in 3A by taking down rival Grantsville on the road 17-14. The Trojans are followed by Judge Memorial, Manti, Juab and Grantsville.

Manti took another step toward a region title by defeating Juab Friday 41-33. Morgan and Judge will face each other on October 25 in a true region championship game in the 3A North.

South Summit was upset by rival North Summit on Friday for the first time in four years but it didn't cost them their No. 1 ranking. They remain the top team in 2A followed by Beaver, North Summit, Grand and San Juan.

Duchesne survived a scare against Rich rallying to defeat the Rebels 20-19. They extend their state record win streak to 42 games and hold onto their No. 1 ranking. They are followed in the 1A poll by Rich, Kanab, Diamond Ranch and Monticello. Diamond Ranch defeated Monticello in overtime 32-26 and move up one spot in the top five.
