WEST JORDAN — Champions were crowned at the 2013 high school lacrosse state championships on Saturday.

Juan Diego defeated Lone Peak 8-4 to claim the boys Division-I championship.

The Soaring Eagle trailed 2-1 at halftime, but rallied to defend their title. Senior Tommy Maddox scored three goals, including two in the third period, to lead Juan Diego to victory.

They finished the year with a 20-1 record and didn't lose to a Utah team all season.

"They were the best support to each other that a team could ever ask for," said coach Patrick Lambert. "I love these guys with all my heart, and I tell them that every day."

Waterford won the boys Division-II title with a 6-4 victory over Syracuse.

The Titans came back to tie it at 4-4, but Matthew West scored in the fourth period to break the tie and give the Ravens the lead for good.

"We've worked hard all year," said Jacob Silva. "This is a team effort; 22 guys put it into this trophy. It's a team effort."

The Girls Division-I title game featured Skyline and Park City. The Miners jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Skyline would take control and fight off a 2nd half rally from Park City to claim the title with a 10-9 victory.

"Our goal at the beginning of the season was to take state," said coach Melissa Baucom. "We've been working every single practice to take state and beat Park City and we got those goals today. We're really proud."

American Fork defeated Lehi to win the Division-II Girls championship. They led 10-3 at one point and held off a furious rally by Lehi to win 11-7.

"I have the greatest group of girls ever," said coach Lindsay Gomm. "I'm so proud of them They've worked so hard all season for this. Coming out on the field today there was no doubt in my mind they were going to take this."
