This year's event is anticipated to be even better with 6th ranked nationally Lone Peak, once again heading up the tournament field.

The showcase game is scheduled for Saturday, December 8th at 4:30 with a rematch between Lone Peak and Orem. Both teams are defending 2011 State Champions and provided the game of the year in last years inaugural event.

2012 Participants

1. Lone Peak - Alpine Utah: Lone Peak is currently ranked 3rd nationally. Coach Quincy Lewis and the Knights are back to back defending 5A state champions. They return BYU commits Nick Emery, TJ Haws, Eric Mika and Talon Shumway. Many experts believe this could be one of the best high school teams to ever come out of Utah.

2. Orem - Orem, Utah: (Tournament Host) Orem put themselves in the mix of top teams from Utah with an upset of Lone Peak in the inaugural Great Western Shootout. It went on to post a 24-1 record and win the schools first State 4A Basketball Championship in its 56 year history. It has four returning starters, led by 4A MVP Zach Hunsaker and all state performers Dalton Nixon and Jordan Darger. It expects national rankings as well and has been invited to play in the prestigious Beach Ball Classic in South Carolina December 27-31st

3. Bountiful - Bountiful, Utah: Bountiful brings a long and storied basketball tradition with them to this years shootout. Led by Coach Mike Maxwell with 20+ years as the head coach. Bountiful has won 3 State titles and finished runner up the last two years.

4. West Jordan - West Jordan, Utah: West Jordan was the winner of the first Great Western Shootout and expects to be highly competitive again this year. West Jordan has won 3 State titles in the last years under Coach Scott Briggs now in his 20th year coaching.

5. Basha - Phoenix Arizona: Basha will bring a top Arizona team to the Shootout. First year coach John Burns will be at the helm. They boast division one signee at Viginia Tech in 6-9 Maurice Kirby.

6. Denver East - Denver, Colorado: Denver East is back for its second year at the GWS. It returns 4 of its starters and is led by USA Junior National player, Damion Collier. Collier is a 6-2 point guard who many compare to a young Chauncey Billups. Most expect Denver East to be favored for the State title this year.

7. Foothill - Henderson, Nevada: Foothill has developed a reputation as one of the top teams in Nevada. They return multiple starters and have high hopes for a state title.

8. South Sevier - Monroe, Utah: South Sevier rounds out the field for this year's tournament. They will quickly become the darling of the tournament being a 2A school (enrollment 400) from Monroe, Utah. They are the defending 2A champions and proven themselves worthy by beating many larger schools during the preseason and during off season summer camps. They boast at least 2 division one recruits including Southern Utah University signee, Race Parsons. Coach Scott Hunt prides themselves with great execution. They will certainly provide a "Hoosier" element at this year's tournament.
