Remember when the knock on BYU Basketball was "can't win on the road?" From 1999-2000 through 2004-05, BYU's record in away games was 24-47 (33.8% win percentage), with a corresponding home record of 77-11 (87.5%); a win percentage disparity of 53.7%. The wideness of that gap was troubling to fans who wondered why the Cougars had so much trouble holding their heads above water on the road.
Note: all "away" game references are to "true" away games; neutral games are not included in any computations. For neutral game records, see end of posting.

The Dave Rose era opened in 2005-06, and has brought to Provo some road toughness and a significant travel turnaround.

BYU's away record in five seasons under Rose is 37-25 (59.6%), with a corresponding home record of 76-4 (95.0%); a gap of 35.4%.
Starting with the 2008-09 campaign, BYU is 19-6 in away games (76.0%), with a corresponding home record of 29-3 (90.6%); a gap of only 14.6%.
You can see the gap notably narrowing, and the team BYU fans see in Provo looks increasingly like the Cougar team opposing squads see on their home floors.

BYU is coming off a 30-point win at TCU on Saturday night; the last time BYU won a league away game by 30+ points was on January 16th, 1993 at Air Force (103-68).
Interestingly, to find BYU's last away win (conference or nonconference) by 30+ points, you have to only go back seven weeks, when BYU won 99-69 at Arizona.
*******
BYU has won four consecutive away games by 20+ points, and the last time that happened was... never. In fact, when BYU opened the 2008-09 season with three straight away wins by 29, 20 and 30 points, it was the first time in school history that BYU had even recorded three straight away wins by 20+, let alone four.
*******
So, of BYU's last 25 away games, BYU has won 19, with:
15 wins by double digits
ten wins by 20+ points
three wins by 30+ points
BYU's average margin of victory in those 19 away wins: 17.9 points per game.

The Cougars' new road mentality has developed over time under Dave Rose:
2005-06

Average winning margin: 6.2 ppg
-
2006-07
Away wins: 6
Average winning margin: 10.7 ppg
-
2007-08
Away wins: 8
Average winning margin: 14.4 ppg
-
2008-09
Away wins: 9

-
2009-10

It is tougher to win away games in college basketball than it is any other sport, and for some very good BYU teams in years past, it was extremely difficult to translate Marriott Center success into any kind of road dominance.
The current coaching regime has established an expectation of success away from Provo, and the results are clear and dramatic.
