I had my mother-in-law's pork roast on Sunday and my husband's pork chili verde on Wednesday. Both very good. I was sent to Park City yesterday to cover the school closures because of swine flu fears. This morning I can't stop sneezing and blowing my nose. But I'm not going to the doctor. Why? Because it's not the swine flu! I think it's a good idea for the World Health Organization to call it something else, like H1N1, even though that's not as catchy a name. When people stop buying pork and countries start slaughtering pigs, that seems to be quite the overreaction. I talked to the Utah Pork Producers Association this week about "what's in a name." They say there's no proof you can get swine flu from eating pig products, but people are still scared. I will admit that I am washing and sanitizing my hands a lot more lately. But I think my sniffles are just something I get every spring when trees and seeds and grass and plants start to grow and tease my sinuses.
