I was very discouraged this morning to find that a couple of thugs had stolen my treasured wrought iron love seat off my front porch. I say a couple because there's no way one person could pick it up and hoist it down my steep front steps, over the courtyard and down another set of steps without help. At a time when many were celebrating the resurrection of Christ, these guys decided to haul off and take someone's prized possession. It's enough to shake my faith in human nature at least for today.
I've been trying to decide what upsets me the most about this theft. There's no doubt that this bench with a big lion in the center is a valuable piece of furniture. One that I won't be able to replace I might add. But, there's more to it than that.
My family and I have spent countless evenings sitting on the bench enjoying a sunset, sipping lemonade or watching the kids light off fireworks. There are the countless times that I have sat their alone taking a breather from my chaotic life and just taking in the beauty of nature or enjoying a magazine. A part of me just wants to put it aside and say something like "They must have needed it more than me," or "it's just a bench." But, there is another part of me that is angry that these thugs will most likely just get away with it because no one has the time to try and track them down. Mostly, I just feel sad. Sad for my self and sad for the thousands of people who are victimized like this every day.
