A Utah Highway Patrol trooper noticed a pickup truck with its headlights off near 500 W. 200 S. around 2:50 a.m. Wednesday.
That's when the trooper says the driver took off, getting onto I-15 at the 400 South entrance. The pursuit led him east, all the way to the Park City exit on I-80, at extremely high speeds.
UHP Sgt. Chamberlin Neff says other troopers wanted to assist, but couldn’t.
“They weren’t able to catch up to the initial trooper,” Neff said. “That’s why Summit County played such a pivotal role and helped us out in being able to spike the vehicle, as well as assist us with a felony stop, too.”
They also feared the bad road conditions and semis using the freeway.
“Because of the wet road conditions and their concern for the safety of their vehicles, as well as the concern for the public, they didn’t feel comfortable driving over 100 miles per hour,” Neff said.
Sheriff’s deputies and the trooper arrested Silke Dayley, 23, of West Jordan, on suspicion of DUI. Neff says she had arrest warrants, too. Officers questioned her 23-year-old passenger believed to be her boyfriend, and arrested him on outstanding warrants as well.
No one was hurt.
