Throughout the summer, KSL has been telling you some of the stories of World War II veterans, as Utah Honor Flight has been taking some of them back to Washington D.C. to see the memorial created in their honor. Though dozens have now taken part in the flights, thousands have not.
In a special KSL News Radio documentary, KSL's Marc Giauque told some of their stories. They include a Utah man who climbed over the side of a ship, down a net and into a landing craft on D-day before storming the beach, two sailors who witnessed the flag being raised at Iwo Jima, and another sailor who was able to tune in a familiar voice from home, while at sea in the Pacific.
Many of the vets featured in the documentary took part in the September 18th Honor Flight, involving a charter flight of 66 veterans and their Guardians. The documentary, in part, chronicles their travels.
