JERUSALEM — A University of Utah law professor who has a home in Israel says there is serious concern that a ground invasion of Gaza is imminent.
The Israeli military warned tens of thousands of residents of the region to evacuate by this morning, hinting at more than just an increase in airstrikes to come.
"It would be some sort of limited ground incursion," Amos Guiora told Utah's Morning News by phone from Israel Wednesday, "with the aim to attack the tunnels that Hamas has built in Gaza."
Guiora says those tunnels in Gaza, used as supply lines by Hamas, are hard to get to from the air, making a ground incursion more attractive to Israel.
