I am e-mailing you for my communication merit badge. I am wondering how the weather man can tell were all the states are behind him. I would appreciate it if you could e-mail me back.

Thank you,

Chandler W.

We get asked this a lot. We have a big green screen behind us when we're at the weather wall but we have some other devices going on too. In front of us on the television camera is a teleprompter. This is what the anchors use to read their scripts. This funky machine can switch over to a tv so we can see ourselves. We see what you are seeing at home. We also see that in two other tv screens, one to the left and one to the right.

We get oriented and get to work. It's not that hard once you get used to it but it does take practice!
