Hi,

My name is Anne Rees I'm one of the Bear Den Leaders in Troop 1136 in Lehi. We had a challenge to figure out for our Pack Meeting and we thought we should ask the KSL weather team.

What was the hottest day on record in March for the state of Utah?

Thank you for your help. Anne R.

A good inquiry at a time where we've had a bunch of records shattered this March 2007. Actually, using the NOWdata program from the NWS Salt Lake which is *FREE, you can access a ton of records for the whole state.

Check out the link to the right, this will take you to the NowData part of the page. Here you can select what you want to look up. Now, this info is by city, not by the whole state. But for example, if we wanted somewhere with a very warm record, like St. George we can look it up easily here. Click on " Monthly Extremes" then select your city. After that you would click on Max Temperature and if you want the current year or past year averages (1971-2000). If you do this, you'll find the all time high in March for St. George is 89, and if you go to current year, you'll find we tied it this year too.

Statewide is different you need to visit the Western Region Climate page for this. That's the second link. You'll want to click on "Monthly Average Extreme Max Temperatures". This will give you a new page with towns and two lines, the bottom most line of data is the record maxes for each place. It appears the all time record high for March statewide is 93 in La Verkin. Zion actually broke their old record of 90 and now the new record for March in Zion is 91.
