WEST VALLEY CITY — A drive-by shooting led to a chase, a crash, and the arrest of three people.

Police said an officer witnessed the shooting in a residential neighborhood near 3300 South and 4000 West early Friday morning.

They said a red Dodge Durango drove by a home and someone in the car started shooting. The vehicle fled the scene, and the officer followed. The suspects drove through red lights and reached speeds of more than 70 miles per hour on city roads.

The Durango's driver then tried to enter the 1-215 on ramp at 4700 South. Sgt. Todd Gray with the West Valley City Police Department said the driver was going too fast, lost control of the car and spun out.

Three men inside the car were arrested. Police identified them as Luis Rivera, Benjamin Venegas, and Ivan Venegas and said they are known gang members.

The three are being questioned and were expected to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted homicide.

The shooting resulted in minor property damage but no injuries. Police said they recovered a shotgun from the Durango.
