Foye, Favors power Jazz past Cavs, 109-98

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Randy Foye scored 20 points, Derrick Favors had a season-high 19 and the Utah Jazz beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-98 on Saturday night.

Utah (22-19) used a 31-point third quarter to take a 16-point lead into the fourth. The Jazz have won five of their last six, and six straight over the Cavs.

Dion Waiters led the Cavs (10-32) with 23 points off the bench. Kyrie Irving added 18 points but started 1 of 7 from the field before finishing 7 of 20.

Waiters helped get Cleveland within 10 with a 12-point fourth, but the Jazz continued to get second and third chances to seal the win.

Former Jazz swingman C.J. Miles added 12 points in his return to Salt Lake City, but shot 4 of 11, including 1 of 6 from 3-point range.

The Cavs shot just 41 percent and were outscored 46-36 in the paint and 21-5 on the fast break.

Utah led 53-48 at the break but Foye's hot hand quickly widened the gap in the third.

His third 3-pointer keyed a 9-0 Utah run that pushed the Jazz lead to 67-54 with 8:02 left in the third.

Jamaal Tinsley started the run with a layup and Al Jefferson capped it with a powerful dunk after faking out Tyler Zeller.

Utah's bench outscored Cleveland's 51-38, with Enes Kanter adding 14 on 7-of-8 shooting.

Favors started 7 of 7 before missing his final four shots and grabbed eight rebounds.

In the second quarter, Favors pushed Utah's lead to seven points as he scored the first six for the Jazz, starting 4 of 4 for nine points and five rebounds in seven minutes.

Irving finally got untracked in the period, hitting two shots in a row, including a 3-pointer that tied it at 43 with 3:31 left in the half.

DeMarre Carroll had nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in the second, with two rebounds and a steal in eight minutes to give Utah a five-point lead heading into halftime.

Irving struggled early against a harassing Jazz defense, missing open shots, contested shots and having Favors swat one away.

His counterpart, 34-year-old Tinsley, opened 2 of 3, his 3-pointer with 3:16 left in the first giving the Jazz a 21-20 lead. He finished with 11 points. Utah led 26-23 after one.

The road-weary Cavs have an NBA-high 32 losses, and finished their five game road trip 1-4.

The Jazz were well-rested, having not played since Monday's 104-97 win over the Miami Heat.

They climbed several spots in the Western Conference during their four days off and entered Saturday night in seventh place.

Utah is trying to make the most of this stretch in which it plays 14 of 19 at home. The Jazz improved to 13-4 at home.

NOTES: The loudest cheer came in the first quarter when former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan was shown on the big screen. . Waiters had the highlight reel dunk over Favors with 10:10 left in the half. Waiters was 3 of 3 for eight points in the second. . Gordon Hayward started 0 of 5 for Utah and finished with five points.
