Jazz CEO Greg Miller joined us on SportsBeat Sunday. He loves Al Jefferson's enthusiasm, Raja's toughness and talks about his making news on Twitter.
The Al Jefferson trade brought big smiles to many, none more than Miller.
TOM KIRKLAND: Greg, your Twitter account is blowing up. Your tweeting last week actually broke the story of the Jazz getting Al Jefferson. What's up with this? I know it's a huge part of how you do business, but now it's leading into the sports realm, leading all sports owners in the NBA -- maybe Cuban -- with you.
GREG MILLER: Well, Cuban's got a lot more followers than I do. He's been doing it a lot longer than I have. I started tweeting about November of last year and it was not long from when I learned about Twitter. I thought it was a way for the fans to get to know a little bit more about me and what I do and who I am and so on.
A lot of people knew my dad and I got asked a lot of questions when I became CEO. "How are you like your dad? How are you different from your dad?" I thought this would be a fun way to put things out there and anyone interested in it could follow me and learn a little bit about me.
KIRKLAND: If they want to follow you it's @greginutah right?
MILLER: That's right.
KIRKLAND: Could you imagine if your dad had Twitter in his hey day?
MILLER: We might be broke by now because he would have been fined so much.
KIRKLAND: Big Al charmed us at the press conference Thursday. He's humble and focused and happy to be there -- a little different than the guys we've had there in the past. How important is it to see that side of him? We know he can play, but boy the community seems to rally around him already.
MILLER: Well I've been very happy with what I have learned about him in the last week or so. You're right. You said a minute ago his enthusiasm is contagious and it's been really great to see and hear him and how excited he is to be here. It's fun to imagine what it will be like when he and Deron (Williams) hit the court, start running our offense and defense and looking forward to the season.
KIRKLAND: Raja Bell's press conference is Monday. He brings a lot of things, but maybe the most important thing is he brings toughness. He brings you guys a real solid force.
MILLER: I agree. At the end of last season someone asked me what we needed to get better and I said we need to get bigger and we need to get tougher. Now with Al here and Raja coming, I think we've accomplished both of those things. It's going to be fun to see Raja on the floor with his athleticism and his tough defense and his hard-nosed method of play. Like I said, it's probably the most excited I've been to watch a Jazz team play.
