Layton quarterback Tayler Katoa ran for three touchdowns, and recent Utah commit Julian Blackmon added two scores to help the Lancers snap a six-game losing streak to rival Northridge, 47-27, for its first 3-0 start since 1977.
Freshman Madie Siddoway's goal just 14 minutes into the match proved to be the game winner, and No. 9 BYU went on to claim its fourth straight shutout to open the season with a 2-0 victory over rival Utah in front of a record crowd of 5,620.
Layton football can move to 3-0 for the first time since 1987, but doing so won't be easy against Northridge, which owns a six-game winning streak in the rivalry. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Layton.
