MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Maurice Howard hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points and Alcorn State won back-to-back games for the first time since November with a 78-71 win over Alabama State on Saturday night.

It is the Braves first two-game win streak since beating Selma University and Blue Mountain College on Nov. 18 and Nov. 22.

Marquis Vance finished with 13 points while Reginald Johnson added 12 for Alcorn State (7-11, 4-3 SWAC), which outshot the Hornets 41.5 to 35.2 percent and held a 23-12 advantage in second chance points.

Tony Armstrong finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Alabama State (4-14, 2-4), which has lost four of its last five games. Rodney Simeon also finished with 13 points for the Hornets and Reginald Lee added 12.

Alcorn State built a 42-35 lead at the half.
