DENTON, Texas (AP) — Jeremy Combs had 16 points and nine rebounds and North Texas beat Delaware State 73-40 on Thursday night.

Delaware State made 12 of 53 shots (22.6 percent) and the Mean Green (5-4) had all the points they would need with 15:11 left when Combs' pair of free throws made it 42-23. That was part of a 20-3 run to start the second half that ended at 52-24 with 9:30 to play.

North Texas had a 17-2 lead to start the game and the Hornets (2-8) responded with their only substantial run, 12 straight points to cut it to 17-14. Delaware State would get no closer and the Mean Green led 32-21 at the break.

A.J. Lawson scored 13 points and Allante Holston had 12 points for North Texas. Rickey Brice Jr. had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Mrdjan Gasevic had 10 points for Delaware State.
