TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Shawn Prudhomme scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Southern defeated Florida A&M 83-71 on Saturday.
Southern (3-3) owned a 52-30 edge in rebounding, including 38 off the defensive glass. The Jaguars outscored Florida A&M 44-28 on points in the paint, and 10-2 on fast breaks.
Tre'lun Banks added 10 points with nine assists for Southern while four players scored eight points each. The Jaguars shot 51 percent from the field (28-55).
Derrick Dandridge led the Rattlers (2-7) with 13 points, Elijah Mays added 12, Trey-Cary Warren 11 and Nasir Core 10 but Florida A&M made 24 of 68 shots for 35 percent.
The score was tied six times with seven lead changes before Southern broke away after halftime. The Rattlers trailed 46-41 at the break and scored 21 points off 23 Southern turnovers.
