Northwestern St. fends off SE Louisiana with 34-24 win

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Justin Alo threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns to help Southeastern Louisiana hold off Northwestern State 34-24 on Saturday night.

Southeastern Louisiana (1-2, 1-0 Southland) led 21-6 at the half, but the Demons got back in it when Brooks Haack connected with Bobby Chan-Chan for a 3-yard score and later to Tuff McClain who got one foot down in the end zone to make it 21-21.

Alo came back and hit Brandon Acker for a 27-yard score.

The teams traded field goals and the score was 31-24 with 8:54 to play.

With less than four minutes left, Javon Tillman stripped the Demons' Chris Jones at his own 29-yard line. Tatum hit a 40-yard field goal with 2:13 left to seal the win. The fumble was Northwestern State's (0-4, 0-3) third turnover of the game.

Jones had 22 carries for 176 yards and Haack threw for 149 yards and two scores.
