Drake fends off late Morehead State rally with a 30-28 win

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Grant Kraemer threw for 284 yards and a touchdown and Drake held off a late Morehead State rally to beat the Eagles 30-28 in a non-conference game for the Pioneer League teams.

Trailing 30-8 to start the fourth quarter, Austin Gahafer threw touchdown passes of 34-yards to Jake Raymond and 15-yards Jake Sutherland. Lawson Page's 3-yard touchdown run with 1:03 cut the lead to two but the 2-point conversion failed.

Drake (2-2) controlled the onside-kick attempt and ran out the clock.

Terry Wallen's 82-yard punt return for a touchdown gave Drake a 16-8 lead at with 9:55 before halftime.

Morehead State (1-3) took an early 8-0 lead when Gahafer found Joby Embrey for a 17-yard score. Josh Lee kicked field goals of 28, 27 and 26 yards to put Drake up by a point.

Gahafer was 26 for 50 for 330 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
