BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Kevin Mays scored 17 points and Cal State Bakersfield built a big, first-half lead and went on to rout Utah Valley, 91-69 Saturday night.
The victory keeps the Roadrunners, winners of four straight, one game back of Western Athletic Conference leader New Mexico State, a 69-55 winner over Chicago State.
Utah Valley took a 17-12 lead just over five minutes into the game, but Bakersfield roared back to take a 20-17 lead, then launched into a 10-3 run capped by Dedrick Basile's 3-pointer to make it 30-20 advantage. By halftime the Roadrunners held a 41-27 lead.
Justin Pride scored 16 points off the bench and Aly Ahmed added 15 to help pace Bakersfield (18-7, 8-2). Matt Smith added 11 points and grabbed eight boards.
Jaden Jackson scored 20 points and Hayden Schenck added 11 more off the bench for Utah Valley (10-15, 4-6).
