LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Jahad Thomas scored 27 points with nine rebounds and UMass Lowell beat Vermont 100-93 on Monday night.

Thomas was 11 of 17 from the field and had four steals and four assists for the River Hawks (9-15, 5-6 America East). Isaac White scored 24 points, Mark Cornelius had 15 points, Logan Primerano added 11 and Matt Harris 10. UMass Lowell shot nearly 58 percent and went 7 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Vermont (14-12, 6-5) was led by Kurt Steidl with 15 points. Trae Bell-Haynes and Ernie Duncan had 14 points apiece, Dre Wills had 11 and Darren Payen and Ethan O'Day each scored 10 points.

Thomas got loose for a layup with 7:46 left to tie it at 70, which started a 12-2 run to put UMass Lowell up 80-71.

Vermont trimmed the deficit to five with 38 second left following a 9-4 spurt, but the River Hawks made six-straight free throws to ice it.
