PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Dominique Elliott had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore over first-place Hampton 73-70 on Saturday.

Bakari Copeland's free throws capped a 7-1 run for The Hawks that made it 68-60 with 1:57 left. Reginald Johnson Jr.'s 3-pointer closed it to 70-68 with 37 seconds left, which was as close as Hampton would get.

UMES (8-16, 5-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won its fourth in a row while the Pirates (13-9, 8-2) dropped into a tie with South Carolina State for first place in the conference standings.

Hampton took its only lead of the second half at 53-52 on Quinton Chievous' dunk with 8:25 left. Elliott dunked and finished a 3-point play to put UMES back in front and the Hawks never trailed again.

Devin Martin added 18 points and Copeland scored 13 for UMES. Johnson had 22 points and Chievous 15 for Hampton.
