NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tucker Haymond scored 13 points and Western Michigan topped Liberty 68-58 in the Challenge in Music City tournament on Friday.
Anthony Avery Jr. had 14 points with six rebounds for the Broncos (3-3) and Kellen McCormick added 12 points and six boards.
Ryan Kemrite led Liberty (3-3) with 15 points — including four 3-pointers. Ezra Talbert and Caleb Homesley scored 11 points apiece while Lovell Cabbil added 10 points.
Western Michigan outrebounded the Flames 34-19.
Liberty led early, thanks to three straight 3-pointers by Homesley, but a 13-3 run by the Broncos led to a 33-25 lead at the break.
Kemrite's 3-pointer with 7:16 left made it a two-point game, but Western Michigan responded with an 11-3 run — including a 3-pointer by Jared Klein and a 3-point play by Haymond on a jump shot — to put the game away.
