CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Armel Potter scored 18 points and Charleston Southern pulled out a 77-76 victory Tuesday night over East Tennessee State after A.J. Merriweather missed a pair of free throws with 3.6 seconds left.

Charleston Southern never trailed but saw a 16-point first-half lead cut to one, 53-52, with 13:10 remaining in the second half.

Raemond Robinson made two free throws for a 77-72 lead with 38 seconds to go. But Charleston Southern missed a pair of 1-and-1 opportunities and two baskets by Ge'Lawn Guyn made it 77-76. But Merriweather, fouled driving to the basket, missed both free throws and Charleston Southern grabbed the rebound. Merriweather came into the game have made all 15 of his free-throw opportunities.

Guyn finished with 23 points and Merriweather with 17 points and 10 rebounds for ETSU (3-2), which was coming off a one-point victory over Georgia Tech.

Charleston Southern (2-3) shot 53 percent including 11 of 19 from the arc for 58 percent.
