PROVO — The BYU Cougars reached .500 Friday in Provo by taking down Middle Tennessee 37-10. The Cougars played an ugly game at times and looked dominant in others.
Turnovers plagued the Cougars from the get go and it continued through the first half.
That was the Cougars third turnover and while the defense didn't force a turnover on the next play like @Cougar_Center hoped, Van Noy did tackle the Middle Tennessee running back for a safety.
"Kyle Van Noy bails out the offense with a safety after the turnover," tweeted @VanquishTheFoe.
At that point BYU trailed the Blue Raiders 10-9, but the offense finally started moving.
Hill ran all over the Middle Tennessee defense like we thought he would, but he also started the game off with solid stats through the air.
That's right folks, 8 for 9. At one point Hill was 5 for 5 and delivering balls right on target.
When all was said and done Hill was 14/19 through the air with 177 and one interception to go along with his 165 yards on the ground.
While Hill's passing game still isn't quite where most Cougars had hoped, his run game is gaining all sorts of attention.
"Taysom Hill is the only FBS QB with 2 rush TD of 50+ yds this season," tweeted @KevinonCFB.
"Taysom Hill is on pace for 1,836 rushing yards for the season," tweeted @CougarStats.
While the Cougars won easily 37-10, it was a sloppy game full of bad penalties and turnover after turnover.
That is hard to do and if BYU keeps that mismanagement of the ball up games against Boise, USU, Wisconsin and Notre Dame a bowl game may not be in the Cougar's future.
At the end of the day, BYU had some really great moments and progress that should have fans excited. However, they also showed immaturity and a lack of self-restraint that could make it a long season indeed.
Next up the Cougars will face off against in-state foe Utah State in Logan on Friday, October 4.
