BYU won both matches over the weekend, defeating Pepperdine and USC, clinching the No. 1 seed in the MPSF tournament and giving the seniors a victory in their final home meet of the regular season.

"Being senior night, one of the things we talked about was not having any family distractions or anything else," BYU head coach Chris McGown said. "But that is what is so great about this team. It doesn't matter what day it is or who we are playing, they come out and play. Tonight, we played a complete game. The guys did great offensively, they dug well and blocked well. It was pretty fun to watch."

BYU won 3-1 on Friday night, defeating the Pepperdine Waves with just nine attack errors in comparison to the Waves committing 24 attack errors.

The win streak continued against USC, with the Cougars winning 3-0 on Saturday night behind senior Ryan Boyce's 33 team-high 33 assists, which helped lead to 43 team kills.

The team played in front of 4,038 fans, who came to cheer on Boyce, Steve Rindfleisch, Russ Lavaja, and Erik Mayer on senior night, in the final regular season home match of the season.

BYU will travel to California for their next four matches, with the first coming against UC-Santa Barbara on Friday night at 7 p.m. PDT.

BYU hosted Pepperdine over the weekend, winning two out of three to improve to 13-14 (2-4) on the season.

BYU hit three consecutive doubles Thursday in the eighth inning, helping propel them to a 8-3 lead that pitcher Derek Speigner protected for the final two innings.

BYU came back from a 6-2 deficit on Friday, with a little help from first baseman Brock Whitney who went 3-4 at the plate, with three RBI and two runs scored.

"I'm really proud of our guys for beating a quality, quality team," BYU head coach Mike Littlewood said.

Pepperdine avoided a sweep with a 9-6 win Saturday, with the Waves jumping to a 7-3 lead in the fourth, a gap that the Cougars were not able to overcome. Pepperdine was lead by Kolten Yamaguchi, who had two RBI, a stolen base, and went 3-5 at the plate.
