The basketball season continues to march forward to the big dance and BYU has another important week of conference games; facing San Diego at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday and then hosting San Francisco at the Marriott Center on Saturday. After practice on Wednesday, head coach Dave Rose, guard Tyler Haws, and guard Matt Carlino commented on Thursday's visit to San Diego; you can hear their media sessions by clicking on "Cougar Cuts," to the left.

Haws talked about what the Cougars have to do to keep San Diego's prolific guards in check.

"Anderson, he's a very quick athletic dude that can go up and down very fast. We gotta control him on the offensive side and obviously Dee is a great shooter. So those are guys we definitely gotta know where they're at all the time on the floor."

Both Chris Anderson and Johnny Dee scored in double figures the last time out against BYU with 13 and 15 points respectively. In fact, they were the only Toreros to reach double figures in that January 19th game in Provo.

Dave Rose not only mentioned the guard play but also pointed out other reasons why the Toreros can be dangerous.

"Not only do they have good guards who can score but their front line is big and physical. It's a really good defensive team and a hard team that's pretty balanced offensively to guard."

"I think that this is a team that really pushes the ball hard up the floor and will score quick in transition. But if they don't get it, if you can defend that, then you're gonna get in a possession where you're gonna have to guard for a long time, and they run really good half court sets."

Carlino emphasized what the team needs to do to play at a high level.

"I've always said when we're just playing that's when we're at our best. When we're thinking too much, thinking about how we need to get this win or putting more pressure on ourselves than we have too, that's when we don't play as well."

With another good practice under their belt, BYU looks to add to their three game win streak. If the Cougars continue to play their up tempo style, they should finish this week up with a smile on their face and keep their hopes alive of playing in March.
