MONTREAL (AP) — The World Anti-Doping Agency has criticized a French documentary showing how the use of micro-doses of banned substances could boost performance while escaping biological passport rules.

The documentary aired by French TV network France 2 monitored eight athletes for a period of 29 days during which they were injected with micro-doses of EPO, human growth hormone and blood transfusions.

Their performance in a series of physical tests improved dramatically and the documentary claimed their blood profiles would have showed no anomaly during their doping period.

WADA director general David Howman says the study "does not accurately follow the Athlete Biological Passport guidelines and therefore its relevance to the ABP is not entirely clear."

Howman also regretted the athletes were used as "human guinea pigs."
