CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have recalled right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong from Triple-A Columbus.
Armstrong was 0-1 with three saves and a 2.50 ERA in 16 appearances at Columbus. He appeared in eight games with the Indians last season, allowing two runs in eight innings.
Also Tuesday, left-hander Ryan Merritt was optioned to Columbus. He pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings Monday in relief against the Texas Rangers in his major league debut.
