ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have optioned right-handed starter Matt Shoemaker to Triple-A Salt Lake in one of five roster moves Sunday.
Shoemaker (1-4) allowed seven earned runs in 2 1/3 innings Saturday night as the Texas Rangers scored six in the third in a 7-2 win. He has a 9.15 ERA in five starts. As a rookie in 2014, Shoemaker went 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA.
Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels might not need to fill Shoemaker's spot in the rotation until May 14 because of scheduled off days.
Right-hander A.J. Achter was recalled from Salt Lake.
Outfielder Craig Gentry was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right lumbar spine strain.
Left-hander C.J. Wilson (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for outfielder Shane Robinson, who was called up from Salt Lake. Robinson was in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
