CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds promoted infielder Kristopher Negron from Triple-A Louisville before Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Cincinnati optioned right-hander Carlos Contreras to Louisville to make room on the 25-man roster for Negron. Louisville RHP Brett Marshall was designated for assignment to make room for Negron on the 40-man roster.

Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday's game after seven innings with a tight left hamstring, shortly before second baseman Brandon Phillips suffered a sprained left thumb.

Negron hit .269 with three home runs in more than 75 games with the Bats. In his only previous major league experience, he was 1-for-4 over four games with Cincinnati in 2012.

Contreras allowed one run in 4 1-3 innings over three games since being promoted from Double-A Pensacola on June 21.
