THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — International Criminal Court judges have postponed a key pretrial hearing for an alleged commander in Ugandan rebel Joseph Kony's notorious Lord's Resistance Army to give prosecutors more time to prepare and possibly broaden the case.
The confirmation of charges hearing for Dominic Ongwen that had been provisionally set for Aug. 24 was pushed back Friday to Jan. 21, 2016.
Ongwen, who faces charges including murder and sexual enslavement, was taken into custody in January and is in pretrial detention at the court's cell block in The Hague. He allegedly led a deadly attack on a Ugandan refugee camp in May 2004.
A confirmation of charges hearing allows judges to weigh prosecution evidence and decide if it is strong enough to merit putting Ongwen on trial.
