SKOPJE, Macedonia (AP) — A second probe into the plane crash that killed Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski a decade ago has conclusively decided that pilot error was to blame.
Trajkovski, six other passengers and the two pilots were killed on February 26, 2004, when the plane crashed in thick fog and heavy rain on a mountainside near the Bosnian town of Mostar.
Omer Kulic, the chief investigator in the joint Bosnian-Macedonian team, told reporters in the capital Skopje on Saturday that the probe had found "seven errors" by the pilots, including failure to inquire about weather conditions, reducing elevation to under 2,000 feet (600 meters), and turning off the auto-pilot.
A first probe had also excluded foul play, but Macedonia had called for a more detailed investigation in 2012.
