BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — An international rights group has demanded the immediate release of 11 activists who planned protests against China at an economic summit in Serbia.
Amnesty International says nine Bulgarians, a Slovak and a Finn — all supporters of the Falun Gong group that has been banned in China — were jailed by Serbian police after they arrived in Belgrade this week. It says they were taken from their hotels and are being kept at an undisclosed location.
Amnesty International says it's "concerned that Serbian authorities are acting unlawfully" and urged them to "immediately end any detention based solely on the persons' intention to exercise their right to peaceful assembly."
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang attended the meeting with the leaders of 16 central and eastern European states.
